Credit Union Miracle Day, Inc., a partnership of credit unions and affiliated organizations, is the title sponsor of the Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run. Proceeds from the run benefit the Children’s Miracle Network (CMN), an international non-profit organization dedicated to helping children by raising funds and awareness for 170 Children’s Hospitals throughout North America.
The 2009 event raised $1 million for the Children’s Miracle Network (which raises funds in support of Children's Hospitals nationwide). About $3.6 million has been raised by credit unions since they began sponsoring the race in 2002.
Credit unions are not-for-profit financial cooperatives owned by those who use their services. Funds are federally insured, but unlike banks, there are no stockholders at credit unions, so earnings are returned to member-owners in the form of lower loan rates, higher savings rates, and low or no-fee products and services. Credit unions are chartered to serve groups that share a common bond. Nearly 8,500 credit unions with assets exceeding $759 billion serve 90 million Americans.
